Course of Working Hunter Fences
Available for hire from Friday 10th July till Monday 20th July
WORKING HUNTER WRITE UP
Sun cream was the order of the day at Sissons Farm Equestrian Centre on Sunday 31st May, the 2nd round of the Volkswagen Working Hunter Accumulator Competition. With the horses coats glistening in the sunshine and competitors and spectators basking in its warmth many competitors enjoyed the hunter course designed by Nick Harris , followed by their conformation show . The jumping section was j udge d Peter Hales ably assisted by Peter Stowe with Steward Di Stickland. Conformation was judged by Roy Gooding with Julie Barrett acting as Steward. A new working hunter class at Sissons Farm is the Beginners Newcomer class, kindly sponsored by Heather Harwood one of our regular volunteers, where fences are 1'9” - 2' – so for those of you wanting to have a go then come along to our Competition Training (1' - 1'6") class and then enter into the Newcomer's Class.
The VW Working Hunter Accumulator consists of 4 competitions dates but each competition is a competition in it’s own right – but if you enter more than one of the competition dates, your scores are combined to find our overall Class winner in our finals in September. We have many other competitions scheduled at Sissons Farm, a friendly and family run Equestrian Competition Centre and we would love to see you. . . .

Double Give it a Go 17th May
On Sunday saw the first of the "Double" Give it a Go Dressage competitions
at Sissons, what does that mean you ask? Basically it means that you can
do the test twice but only your highest score counts. But actually it
means that after being in the Arena for about 4 - 5 mins you don't have
to wait another 4 to 5 weeks before going back in and trying again.
Many of the competitors that had a go thought it was a very good idea
and helped them tremendously and they also did not feel so nervous the
second time around. Classes were split so that they stayed quite small,
everyone got a rosette and confidence was boosted, so mission accomplished!
Check out the results here
Meanwhile Di Stickland had a Teach In in the Main Arena with the Show
Jumps, letting riders use a course of show jumps having a little
discussion about arena etiquette and quickly going through the rules,
after which they had another go at using the course. This way of
teaching is very useful to first time competitors and nervous riders,
everyone has to start somewhere.
We at Sissons like to encourage all riders of all abilities achieve
their aim!
Watch out for the next Double Give it a Go or better still email Ann
and ask when the next one will be.

Bank Holiday Monday 4th May
Although the sun at times did shine, the day turned out to be quite cold, but that did not stop the crowds entering in either the Show Jumping of our very popular Unaffiliated Showing Classes. The Showing riders/handlers were able to choose Qualifiers from Ex Racers, Marriage's Riding Club Pony of the Year, and several qualifying classes for Equifest plus many many more. Our Judge for the day, Wayne Bailey from Isleham did a fantastic job of guiding the less experienced but encouraging all competitors to bring out the best in their horses, thus making sure everyone had a great day and learnt from the experience.

On the Show Jumping front most of the classes had over 40 competitors making exciting entertainment for the crowds. Our new Show Jumping Training Class (1' - 1'9")
had an good take up with complete Novice riders/horses getting to grips with a proper competition atmosphere without too much stress. It is good to see so many taking the brave step towards participating at competition level. Our Judge for the day Sue Rimmer, ably assisted by Julie Barrett, had a frantic time splitting the classes to award both horses and pony sections with their prizes.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those competitors and their friends for continuing to support events at Sissons Farm.
Remember if you have a particular need, talk to us, maybe we can help!

of the day.

Clear Round Rules
We have introduced some new rules to make it fairer for all riders. We have taken this action to avoid
unnecessary delays – but on some Sundays the Clear Round will be run separately in part of the Warm Up Arena –
so more time will be allowed.
Clear Round is not to be used as a Schooling Session.
A max of 5 refusals (total) or a time of 3 minutes will be allowed, per
rider. Riders must leave the Arena after 5 refusals or 3 mins.
A max of 20 tickets will be sold, (1 ticket per Horse) in the first
instance– from the start of the hour – so you could be disappointed
if you are not booked in!
Arena Hire & Schooling Sessions
If you would like to have a schooling session - see Ann to book the Arena –
its only £15 for the first horse for one hour (which equates to 20 Clear Rounds!)
