20th November 2011 - Christmas came early to Sissons!!

With the thought of another Christmas Show being cancelled due to snow and ice, it was decided to hold our Christmas Show Jumping early and despite the fog the riders were not put off. Everyone entered into the spirit of the day some dressing up and with tinsel everywhere. Mulled wine and homemade mince pies kept up the Christmas cheer and we even managed a decorated tree with lights!! Riders and spectators all had a good time; in fact several of us thought that Nick (who was judging and commentating) possibly enjoyed it more than the riders, he supported all his competitors with his encouraging festive commentary.

The Fancy Dress was very difficult to judge but Elisha Beehoo on her pony Hincliffe Merlyn won with Rowan Jones-Brown on her pony Barney coming 2nd.

Winner of the Horse and House was Kirsty Hill with her pony Cinders and Scooby the dog. The adult section was won by Jane Moon on Irishman with Gizzy the dog. The competition was a real hoot so much so that we intend to run it again as an Easter Special on 8th April; so get training with your dog's.

More Winners:
2'3" Pairs Holly Bolster and Lucy Jakes in a time of 112.89
2'6" Pairs Dan Richardson and Marke Hawkes in a time of 122.96
2'3" Rudolph's Absolute Novice: Kirsty Hil on Cinders in a time of 27.80
2'6" Christmas Cracker Novice: Helena Webster on You've Been Tangoed in 27.08

Well Done to all our Winners!!

Lastly we would like to wish all our riders and supporters a Very Happy Christmas and a Good New Year. We start again with Unaffiliated Dressage on Sunday 26th February and Show Jumping on 4th March

After a week when the weather could not make up its mind, the sun shone bringing out the crowds for Sissons second Showing Show of the year

Our In Hand Judge - Mr Tony Tilley, ably assisted by our Steward Nicky Sparks - put the competitors through their paces – some new faces to Sissons who were put at ease and shown the way to go

Local Judge Mr Nigel Oliver was our Ridden Judge, assisted by Steward Julie Barrett - competitors were given the whole Main Arena to really show what they were made off. This was the first time our Showing Show had been on the surface and by all accounts everybody was appreciative, especially as the ground has been so hard as of late.

Several classes were Royal London and Equifest Qualifiers as well as the Ex Racers. As usual a number of the classes were split to give competitors that special 'winning feeling'

Many congratulations to all our Winners and qualifiers. Click here for full list of winners.

. . . . See you on Bank Holiday Monday 7th May 2012 – Classes will again be on our chopped rubber and silica sand surface (60 x 45) – so plenty of space for a good canter!

If you have a special request for a particular class please feel free to talk to Ann

UK Riders Challenge 2011

All our Unaffiliated Dressage comps up to June 2011 will now be qualifiers for the above Challenge. Levels covered Prelim, Novice and Elementary. All dressage competitions are held under British Dressage first round rules. All dressage qualifiers MUST receive 58% or over in their test to qualify. Competition structure and qualifying criteria is below

  • Qualifiers are held until 31st May 2011.
  • Regional Finals are held from 1st June to 14th July 2011.
  • The National Finals will be held at Arena UK on 13th August 2011.
  • Both members and non-members of UK Chasers and Riders are eligible to compete in qualifying rounds, but non-members must join within 14 days of qualifying to progress to Regional Finals.
  • Affiliated riders and/or horses may enter the qualifiers, however no combination of horse and rider may qualify for Regionals if they are affiliated to the British Show Jumping Association (BSJA) or British Eventing (BE) for Showjumping classes, or British Dressage (BD) or British Eventing (BE) for dressage classes. Novice unaffiliated riders competing on an affiliated horse are eligible, as are affiliated riders competing on young or inexperienced horses. The only competitors excluded are fully paid up affiliated combinations of horse and rider as this is a competition designed specifically to encourage unaffiliated combinations.
  • If a horse and rider combination qualify for a Regional Final and then subsequently affiliate they are still eligible to continue to the Regional and National Finals of the current year's competition at the level(s) they gained qualification in before affiliating.
  • Juniors are those under 16 on 13/8/11 for the 2011 Challenge.
  • Combinations of horse and rider competing at Novice/Elementary dressage level will not be eligible to compete in the Prelim Scales of Training Regional Finals.
  • Combinations of horse and rider qualifying for Intermediate or Open show jumping classes of the UK Riders Challenge are not eligible to go forward to Regional Finals in the Restricted Novice class. If a combination qualifies for the Restricted Novice and either the Intermediate or Open Class, the restricted novice qualification will become invalid.
  • Wherever possible qualifications should be passed down the line if the qualifying competitor is affiliated or has already qualified at that level. This is dependant on achieving the normal qualifying criteria- eg. Over 58% in dressage classes or a clear in the first round show jumping.
  • All dressage classes will be run in accordance with British Dressage first round rules. Please refer to the BD rulebook for further information.
  • All show jumping classes will be run in accordance with BSJA first round rules. Please refer to the BSJA yearbook for further information.
  • A riding hat which conforms to PAS015 or BSEN1385 with a three point linkage harness properly adjusted and fastened must be worn at all times whilst mounted.
  • No horse/pony under 4 yrs of age is eligible
  • The decision of the centre holding individual competitions is final.

Visit the UK Chasers Website www.ukchasers.com for full Rules.

When you have qualified it will only cost you £20 per year per horse to join UK Chasers/ Riders, enabling you also to use the network of UK Chasers Cross Country Courses!

Competition Training 1' - 1'9" Max-

You will notice a new section replacing Clear Round for some events - namely Competition Training at a height of 1' - 1'9" max for Absolute Beginners - or Bottom Hole Jumping - It will run for 1 hour only and Riders will be allowed a max of 2 Refusals at a jump with a total maximum of 6 Refusals per round, which will then result in elimination. Riders may be accompanied. Riders will then only be able to enter the Absolute Novice Class at 2'3". New Rules on Back Page of schedule. Let Ann know what you think.

This class is intended to increase the confidence of new riders or horses/ponies new to jumping and as such will be restricted to riders that fall into this category. Anybody who blatantly contradicts the sprit of this Class will be banned from competing for the rest of the day.

British Dressage Class Tickets!

Please note: British Dressage Class Tickets can now be obtained from Sissons Farm - just speak to Ann - £7 each. No more waiting for BD to send them through the post.

Clear Round Rules

We have introduced some new rules to make it fairer for all riders. We have taken this action to avoid unnecessary delays – but on some Sundays the Clear Round will be run separately in part of the Warm Up Arena – so more time will be allowed.

Clear Round is not to be used as a Schooling Session. A max of 5 refusals (total) or a time of 3 minutes will be allowed, per rider. Riders must leave the Arena after 5 refusals or 3 mins.

A max of 20 tickets will be sold, (1 ticket per Horse) in the first instance– from the start of the hour – so you could be disappointed if you are not booked in!

Arena Hire & Schooling Sessions

If you would like to have a schooling session - see Ann to book the Arena – its only £15 for the first horse for one hour (which equates to 20 Clear Rounds!)
